We've been enjoying many activities over the past few days. Today students visted Mme Dawe's class next door and enjoyed some new and different centres. There will be more pictures to come next week!

Students have been learning actions (based on the A.I.M. program) to accompany French language. This helps in reducing the amount of English spoken in the classroom, and increases the rate in which they become more fluent in a second language. We have begun our story entitled "La Poule Maboule". Below, you will find the file for the song we have been singing this week, and the lyrics.
Our popular activities today included viewing caterpillars and cutting, scooping and cooking a pumpkin in preparation for making pumpkin tarts tomorrow... yum! Some of the children's observations and quotes regarding our new caterpillar friends... Elijah: "They're not moving" Caitlin: "There's a baby sleeping" Sebastian: "I found a big one. There's two caterpillars" Rodney: "He's going to eat more food" Brailee: "There's cinq caterpillars" Rowan: "There's cinq caterpillars, they're so cute. This is going to be their home for today" Elijah: "He's gonna turn into a butterfly" Jack: "He's eating. Madame, I had one of those caterpillars at my home" Jude: "He's going to climb all the way up" Athaliah: "Look at my picture, I made a caterpillar" Kale: "That's the daddy one", Mme Burck: "pourquoi?", Ben: "cause he's the biggest" Students were very eager to come and help scoop the seeds out of the pumpkin. They also offered suggestions as to what to do with the seeds. Most of the students wanted to plant them or eat them. We will likely try some pumpkin seeds in class tomorrow!
The pumpkin baked in our oven for about an hour and is just about ready for our tarts tomorrow. Stay tuned for photos of the process and product! On Wednesday, October 16 we took a walk around the school yard to explore and collect nature. We will be continuing our learning by taking a walk to AKO park on Monday, October 28 in the morning and talking about similarities and differences between our yard and the field. We will also look for signs of fall and natural occurences. We will be needing at least 3 parent volunteers to join us next Monday. Please let us know if you are available!
