We are discussing our family photos and family members on Thursday and Friday this week! If your child has not yet brought his/her family photo to school, please send it with him/her Thursday/Friday! Merci.
Our students would really love to have a dress-up centre in our classroom! If you have any costumes to donate or lend to our centre it is much appreciated! Merci.
We are continuing to talk about the weather and ways people adapt to it (for example, what activities people do in the summer vs. the winter, how individuals dress for the snow/rain etc.) Please discuss this with your child at home. Students have demonstrated their knowledge by drawing/telling what they are wearing during different types of weather, talking about what the weather is like, and drawing/explaining what types of activities they enjoy during different seasons/weather. In language, students are expected to use specialized vocabulary for a variety of purposes. Mainly, our focus here is whether stduents are attempting to use learned French vocabulary or phrases in conversations. As part of our media literacy component, we are also asking children to respond critically to animated works. Our entry survey this past week asked students to choose an animated feature they would like to view. They talked about why they choose that particular feature, why they would like to watch it more than the other choice. In mathematics, students are asked to use one-to-one correspondence in counting. This is also observed when students match items. We are also using ordinal numbers (first/premier, second/deuxième etc.), when lining up and preparing for lunch/home. We also have been measuring beans with different measuring cups and spoons, noting the different sizes, and how many scoops it takes to fill different cups. We will continue with more measurement activities in the coming weeks. In science, students are asked to investigate various materials that have different properties by manipulating and comparing them. This past week, students investigated different materials at the light table, and described whether or not they could see through them. They also investigated different types of balls, and discussed which ones bounce higher, which ones are noisier, etc. Our students love making creations with recyled materials, such as boxes, paper tower rolls, yogurt container Please see some of our pictures below.
